— Janesville Parker baseball coach Brian Martin is confident his team can win most games when it scores seven runs, like it did Tuesday.

But the Vikings’ pitchers struggled with their control, and Parker hit into three double plays in an 8-7, eight-inning Big Eight Conference loss to Verona.

The Wildcats’ John Moynihan hit a leadoff single in the eighth. A walk put runners on first and second, and David Lund then delivered the game-winning hit to drive in Moynihan.

“We walked nine guys and hit two. We put 11 guys on base,” said Martin.

The Vikings (2-4) fell behind 5-1 after Verona scored four in the third, but Parker came up with six runs in the fourth to take a 7-5 lead.

Aric Bobzien and Vernon Franklin highlighted the big inning with two-run singles.

Verona came back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie it.

Parker plays Thursday at home against Sun Prairie.
