— Janesville Craig girls soccer coach Bill McCabe shouldered the blame for Tuesday’s 5-0 Big Eight Conference loss here.

The Cougars, coming off a big win over Fond du Lac on Saturday, fell behind 3-0 to the Wildcats and never recovered.

“We had a great weekend, and then we had a letdown. … I’m going to put this whole thing on me,” said McCabe. “I didn’t think I had our girls focused and ready to play this afternoon.”

Craig goaltender Maddie Schroeder recorded 16 saves.

“They’re always a solid team,” McCabe said of Verona. “But I thought we were every bit as good as they were.”
