The winning ways continued Wednesday for Janesville Craig’s softball team.

The Cougars remained unbeaten on the season with a convincing 8-0 Big Eight Conference win over Madison Memorial.

Craig (6-0, 3-0) got a complete-game three-hit shutout from pitcher Paige Weber, while the Cougar bats pounded out five extra-base hits.

“Our bats set the tone with a big four-run first inning, and then Paige was dominant after that,” Craig coach Dan Bayreuther said. “That’s back-to-back shutouts for her where she has been in total control.”

Weber, a senior, struck out 11 and walked only two.

Haley Bayreuther and Leigh Grall each had a double and triple for Craig, as the Cougars finished with nine hits—five for extra bases.

Craig hosts Madison East today at 4:30 p.m. at the Janesville Youth Sports Complex.

-- Verona 12, Parker 3—The visiting Wildcats collected 17 hits in coasting to the Big Eight win.

Parker (0-6, 0-3) avoided losing by the 10-run rule with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Kayce Chesebro’s two-run single was the key hit in the inning for Parker.

“We’re still not hitting the ball the way we’re capable and are making too many errors, but we’re starting to play more consistent as a team,” Parker coach Jenni Seisser said. “We just have to be able to put it all together for one game and not in spurts.”

Parker, which was limited to three hits, plays at Madison La Follette today.
