Parker baseball puts it together
The Vikings used nine hits, eight walks and four stolen bases, along with the superb pitching of Cullen Osmond to shut out Beloit Memorial, 13-0, in a game that was called after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Osmond, a sophomore, pitched all five innings in his first varsity start.
"He went out and threw strikes," said Parker coach Brian Martin. "Walks are what has killed us. He threw strikes, and we played good defense."
Will Theisen led the Parker offense. He went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs. The sophomore shortstop also stole two bases.
Jake Welch and Aric Bobzien added two hits and two RBIs each.
"We didn't exactly pepper the ball around the park," Martin said. "We took advantage when they walked us and we used our speed. I was happy with that."
The Vikings took a 9-0 lead with a six-run second inning. Justin DeVoe had a triple and Hunter Marshall drove him home with a sacrifice fly. Osmond helped his own cause with a two-run single, and Welch and Theisen also had RBI singles.
The Vikings, now 1-2 in the Big Eight, play at Madison East on Thursday.
