— An Illinois company is adding a manufacturing plant in Elkhorn in order to expand production and meet increasing demand.

Based in Brookfield, Ill., Sweetener Supply Corp. hopes to have the plant at 1080 Proctor Drive in operation before the end of the year.

The plant is expected to fill to 25 full-time positions within the first three years of operation.

The manufacturing plant will be dedicated to the company's Ridgeland brand. Under the Ridgeland brand name, Sweetener Supply makes moulding starch, dusting starch, powdered cellulose, anti-caking blends and insoluble fibers.

"The new manufacturing facility is reflective of Ridgeland Fiber's rapid growth in the marketplace and is essential in our efforts to continue meeting and exceeding customer demand and expectations for Ridgeland products," Joe Gardella, the company's chief executive officer, said in a news release.

Company officials said they decided to site the plant—the company's second dedicated to the Ridgeland brand—in Elkhorn because it is one of the fastest growing communities in Wisconsin.

"After reviewing many locations, we determined Elkhorn to be the ideal fit for our new plant," said Mark Riesenberg, vice president of sales and marketing. "The Elkhorn location offers convenient access to the cities of Chicago, Madison, Milwaukee and Rockford.

"Additionally, the city of Elkhorn is rooted in history and tradition. Our employees will enjoy access to quality education, various types of housing and recreation."

Sweetener Supply specializes in manufacturing and distributing food ingredients to the food, beverage, baking, dairy, pet care and neutraceutical industries. Its products includes products such as Sur Sweet Invert Syrups, Ambersweet Liquid Sucrose, ClearSweet "Water White" Sucrose, Ultraclear "Cordial Grade" Sucrose, Delicious Golden Brown Sugar, Delicious Fine Granulated Sugar, Delicious Molasses, Delicious Honey and Ridgeland Fibers.
