Jets fall to Springfield in overtime

— The Janesville Jets lost to the visiting Springfield Blues, 3-2, in overtime Saturday to conclude the North American Hockey League regular season.

Josef Pontasch scored at 1:24 of the overtime to give Springfield the victory.

The Jets finished in second place in the Midwest Division with a 37-18-5 record. St. Louis won the division with a

41-15-3 mark, and Springfield was third at 31-27-2.

Darren McCormick gave Janesville a 1-0 lead at 5:10 of the first period, but Pontasch scored at 8:13 for Springfield. Brett Skibba scored at 3:48 of the second as the Blues took a 2-1 lead into the third period.

Michael Preston scored at 12:55 of the third period off assists from Craig High graduate Conor Lemirande and Lawrence Childs.

Jets starting goalie Tony Kujava did not play. Nate Teuscher, recruited from Milwaukee, played his second game and stopped 17 of 20 shots.

Janesville hosts Springfield at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the first round of the best-of-five NAHL playoff series.
