Tickets on sale for Lombardi event
JANESVILLE Vince Lombardi, the legendary Green Bay Packers coach, addressed a packed house at Janesville’s former Marshall Middle School on Feb. 26, 1969.
An entourage of special guests will celebrate Lombardi’s Janesville appearance at 7 p.m. this Wednesday at the Janesville Performing Arts Center.
Lombardi’s final appearance in Wisconsin was in the middle school auditorium, which is now JPAC. Lombardi left the state to be the coach and general manager of the Washington Redskins.
The two-hour program includes highlights from the HBO “Lombardi” documentary, a motivational speech from Lombardi impersonator Joe Pineto, John O’Neill of Middleton dressed as St. Vince, Janesville’s Joe Kuhar, a candidate for the Packers’ Fan Hall of Fame, Gary Martin, who voluntarily cares for Lombardi’s grave in Red Bank, N.J. and other Green Bay Packer fanatics.
Lombardi’s daughter, Susan Lombardi, will dedicate a plaque to commemorate her father’s appearance.
The event features a silent auction of Lombardi and Packer paraphernalia, including CD copies of Lombardi’s speech. Al Fagerli, sports director of WCLO, is the master of ceremonies.
Tickets are $10 each and on sale at the JPAC ticket office, 408 South Main Street, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Tuesday.
