JANESVILLE Fans of scavenger hunts, puzzles and trivia can participate in Rock County’s version of the television program “The Amazing Race.”
Teams who register for “Treasure Quest” will gather in Traxler Park at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, for the all-day event.
Winning prize is $2,500.
The race pits teams of two against each other as they travel Rock County. The teams must prove their mettle by solving clues and participating in physical and mental challenges to move on to the next station.
Proceeds of “Treasure Quest” go to the sponsor, Kandu Industries, an organization serving disabled residents.
The race is open to a maximum of 50 pairs. Cost is $100 per pair. The fee includes a T-shirt.
There is no age limit, but each team needs a licensed driver.
Teams might be asked to answer trivia questions, solve puzzles and perform other mental and physical tasks.
Liz Rondon, development coordinator at Kandu, said contestants needn’t worry about the physical challenges being too strenuous.
“We really hope that a lot of college kids see this as a cool way to get $2,500 to go toward college or spring break,” she said.
Rondon hesitated to divulge more information about the nature of the challenges to keep them secret from the contestants.
This is the first year Kandu is sponsoring the event. Last year, it made initial plans but did not hold the contest. That is why the race might sound familiar to some.

This sounds really neat, but at $100 per pair, it seems a little high. They should have opened it to more than the 50 teams and lowered the cost. That would have drawn a larger crowd, I think.
