Derek Rongstad kicked a 26-yard field goal with 10:24 remaining Friday night to give visiting Middleton a 17-14 victory over Sun Prairie in Big Eight Conference football.

The victory pulled Middleton into a second-place tie with Janesville Parker, each at 5-1. Sun Prairie fell to 4-2 and plays at Parker this Friday.

Sun Prairie scored twice in the second quarter for a 14-7 lead. Middleton’s A.J. Redders connected with Drew Haack on a 28-yard pass to tie the game in the third quarter.

Sun Prairie did not threaten to score after Rongstad’s go-ahead field goal.

Otto Vazquez scored on a 71-yard run in the first quarter to give Middleton a 7-0 lead. Vazquez gained 98 yards on 23 carries.

Quarterback Ryan Curran connected on TD passes of 26 and 21 yards in the second quarter to give Sun Prairie a

14-7 lead at the half.
