Janesville Parker’s boys soccer team kept it close for one half Thursday against Sun Prairie but ran out of steam in the second half.

The Cardinals scored three goals in the second half in a 4-0 Big Eight Conference win.

Parker High (0-10-1, 0-7-0) got a combined 16 saves from Jon Fillian and Brayan Manzanilla.

“We switched some things up at half to try and generate some offense, but we couldn’t get anything going on that end,” Parker coach Andy Holmes said. “But overall, we played a pretty good game. Our effort was good.”

Parker plays Lake Geneva Badger tonight in the first of three games in the two-day Badger Invitational.

“They’re No. 1 in the Big Eight and solid as a rock,” said Craig coach Charles Friedrich. “They got us in the first half. They made you make mistakes.”

Craig’s Peter Cooney made nine saves through about 60 minutes. Reserve Keegan Lechey came in and also made nine saves in the final 30 minutes.

“They’re a quality team,” Friedrich said. “The only thing you can do is hustle and try to defend your goal as best as possible.”
