Janesville Parker's boys soccer team hung tough with Verona on Thursday but could not overcome a slow start.

The Wildcats scored twice in the first eight minutes en route to a 5-0 Big Eight Conference win.

Parker High (0-8-1, 0-6-0) put seven shots on goal but could not convert.

"I thought we competed the entire game," Parker coach Andy Holmes said. "The goals Verona did get were on well set-up plays, but we had as much possession of the ball as they did."

Parker hosts Beloit Memorial in a nonconference game Tuesday night.
