JANESVILLE By doing the little things, Janesville Parker’s girls tennis picked up a big win Tuesday.
Thanks to a sweep in doubles, Parker High rolled to a 5-2 Big Eight Conference win over crosstown rival Janesville Craig at Palmer Park.
Parker (3-5) again was led by the No. 1 doubles team of Maddie Theisen and Kristin Zeilinger, who improved to 17-0 on the season with a straight set win. Ashley Lindsey and Elizabeth Severance, along with Karissa Haney and Rosalie Sellman, also won at doubles for the Vikings.
“We came out fighting and stayed the course,” Parker coach Justin Long said. “We did the little things necessary to win and were lucky enough to come out on top.
“Craig played a good match, and there was some great tennis played by both teams.”
Becky Harmata and Megan Mitchell won at singles for Parker, while Kaylee Rossing and Minanda Mishleau picked up wins for Craig (3-5).
“Parker had their game on today,” Craig coach Bill Peyer said. “We fell a little flat after coming out strong.’’
Parker will wrap up the conference dual schedule Thursday when it hosts Madison La Follette, while Craig concludes its Big Eight season at Madison East.
