Albion prevails over DeForest
DEFOREST The Albion Tigers slipped past the DeForest Deacons, 4-2, in 10 innings Sunday in the Home Talent baseball championship series.
Eliminated from series contention, the visiting Tigers salvaged a victory with two runs on four consecutive two-out singles and Adam Gregory’s relief pitching.
Albion’s Casey Schmaling and Ryan Stace were safe on infield hits. Both Tigers advanced to second and third on a throwing error on Stace’s hit.
Aaron Laskowski’s infield hit scored Schmaling from third with the winning run. Gregory singled to right to score Stace with an insurance run.
Gregory put down DeForest without incident in the 10th. Gregory pitched two hitless innings of relief, notching three strikeouts and walking one.
The Tigers finished the season 15-6 in the Sunday League and 22-11, including the Thursday Night League. It was the first time Tigers advanced to the Final Four of the Sunday League playoffs since 1976.
