Janesville Craig senior Tommy Meister was the individual standout Thursday in the Hartland Arrowhead Invitational, but the host Warhawks dominated the team portion of the high school cross country meet.

Arrowhead easily won the boys and girls titles, while Meister led the No. 3-ranked Cougar boys to a second-place finish. Meister won the 5,000-meter race in 15:33.36, more than a second better than Arrowhead’s Russell Sandvold, the 2011 WIAA Division 1 1,600-meter champion.

“Tommy’s time is very good for this early in the season,” Craig co-head coach Brian Lawton said. “And he got a little revenge, too. Sandvold beat him at state in the mile.

“I’m pretty pleased with both of our boys and girls teams performances today. Arrowhead won state last year for the boys, and their girls team is pretty tough, too.”

The Arrowhead boys are ranked No. 1 in the state. The girls are ranked No. 2.

Spencer Hrycay was fourth for the Craig boys.
