— UW-Rock County opened the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference men’s soccer season Wednesday with a 7-1 victory over host UW-Baraboo.

“You never know what’s going to happen the first game,” UW-Rock coach Grant McNall said. “We played one scrimmage and an alumni game. We came off slow, but we came on strong in the second half.’’

Grant Jahns, a 2010 second-team all-league forward, posted a hatrick for the Rattlers.

UW-Rock is returning six players and is hoping to improve on last season’s 7-4 WCC record.

UW-Rock plays Saturday in the UW-Fond du Lac tournament.
