— A Rock County Court official has set a not guilty plea for a woman accused of using the names of friends, family and customers to take out loans from Parker Community Credit Union in Janesville.

Laura A. Powers, 50, of 3424 Kingsbridge Drive, Janesville, on Wednesday stood mute to charges of theft from a business setting and 10 counts of identity theft. Court Commissioner Stephen Meyer entered the not guilty plea.

Powers is accused of using her position as a loan officer at the credit union to take out between $700,000 and $800,000 in loans, according to court documents.

She was released Aug. 1 on a $5,500 signature bond. As of Friday afternoon, her next court appearance had not been set.
