— Janesville Craig summoned an extra dose of intestinal fortitude to finally get past visiting Sun Prairie, 93-76, Friday in Big Eight Conference girls swimming.

In the past three seasons, the Cardinals beat the Cougars by two points and tied them twice.

“We’ve had a lot of close meets,” Craig coach Brian Kitzman said. “We knew Sun Prairie was tough, but the mental toughness of our team won this meet.’’

Alexis Roach won the 200 freestyle in 2:05.76 and the 100 backstroke in 1:06.13 for Craig.

“Some girls swam faster than they should have,” Kitzman said. “Some had to come from behind. It was a gutsy, great win over Sun Prairie.’’

Craig (2-0) hosts Beloit Memorial at 5 p.m. next Friday.
