Throwing error in ninth helps Beloit Snappers rally to win

BELOIT — A bases-loaded throwing error in the bottom of the ninth lifted the Beloit Snappers to a come-from-behind 6-5 victory Thursday over the visiting Peoria Chiefs in Midwest League baseball.

Tyler Grimes hit a slow roller to Chiefs third baseman Arismendy Alcantara, who threw the ball past first base allowing Daniel Perez and Jario Perez to score the tying and winning runs.

Beloit erased a 5-1 deficit, scoring a pair of runs in the eighth inning on Michael Gonzales’ double and run-scoring singles from Lance Ray and Grimes to cut the deficit to 5-3.

Jonathan Goncalves hit a one-out double in the ninth, and Ortiz ripped an RBI single to cut Peoria’s lead to 5-4.

Snappers’ reliever Jose Gonzales (5-3) blanked Peoria in the ninth to earn the victory.
