— Janesville Craig lost 3-1 to Madison West in a Big Eight Conference volleyball opener Thursday at Craig.

The Cougars lost the first match 25-15, but bounced back to post a 26-25 victory. Craig lost the next two matches 25-15 and 25-20.

“In Game 4, we were right with them,” Craig coach Blake Budrow said. “We played well, but the difference was we didn’t serve well. We gave them a lot of points.’’

Regan Sitorius made eight kills and Katie Villa had 21 assists for Craig.

Craig plays at 6:30 p.m. next Thursday at Verona.

-- Memorial 3, Parker 1—The visiting Vikings lost the first two games, 25-19, 25-22, before earning a 25-23 victory. But Parker lost 25-17 in the fourth game in a Big Eight opener.

“It was a toughie,” Parker coach Dave Lehmann said. “We looked like the young team we are. We made too many mistakes to win the close ones.’’

Ashley Hartwig posted 23 kills, and Ashley Ross had 27 assists for Parker.

Parker hosts Middleton at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
