— What began as a retail theft investigation Thursday at Halloween Express, 1720 Milton Ave., turned into a vehicle pursuit and arrest of a Janesville woman on multiple charges.

Shantay Sims, 27, was arrested on charges of retail theft, knowingly fleeing an officer, recklessly endangering safety, resisting an officer and possession of marijuana, said Sgt. Dean Sukus.

When officers arrived at 7:30 p.m. in the store’s parking lot, the suspect vehicle was pointed out to them. As they initiated a traffic stop, the driver fled across grass in the area of a nearby fast-food restaurant and car wash, back onto the road and through several stop signs, he said.

At that time, the pursuit, which only lasted a couple minutes, was terminated, Sukus said.

A short time later, a Rock County Sheriff’s deputy spotted the suspect vehicle in the area of Wright Road and Midvale Drive, pulled it over and took Sims into custody, he said.

Sims’ 9-year-old daughter also was with her during the pursuit, Sukus said.
