— About 90 people were arrested Thursday as police busted an underage drinking party at 404 W. Center St.

Several residents of the house face charges of furnishing alcohol to underage persons, sale of alcohol without a license and failure to prevent underage consumption of alcohol, according to a news release from the City of Whitewater Police Department.

Police focus on preventing large-scale house parties in order to deter underage drinking and binge drinking, according to the news release. In addition to being unsafe, the parties disrupt neighborhoods and often resemble cottage industries because they happen so regularly and generate so much money, according to the news release.

In a similar situation, police in 2010 busted a large underage drinking party on the third Thursday in October. In both cases, the busts happened the week before UW-Whitewater’s homecoming.
