— The Janesville Police Department is investigating one of the three fires in Janesville on Thursday evening.

The suspicious fire at 205 N. Pine St. broke out at 5:05 p.m. Police already had been dispatched to the home Thursday afternoon and had cleared the scene 20 minutes before the fire call, according police department records. Police had responded to the empty home more than once for reports of trespassers and vandalism, according to department records.

Damage to the two-story, single-family home at the intersection of Pine Street and Laurel Avenue is estimated at $40,000, according to a news release from the Janesville Fire Department.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Firefighters also responded to a stove fire at 1315 W. State St. at 7:16 p.m. Thursday. A damage estimate was not available late Thursday night.

The first fire call of the evening was at 314 W. Holmes at 4:45 p.m. Residents reported malfunctioning electrical wires rather than a fire, according to fire department records.
