Milton, Craig volleyball advance

Milton High School's volleyball team made quick work of Janesville Parker in a WIAA Division 1 regional opener Thursday night.


The Badger South champion Red Hawks swept the Vikings, 3-0, winning by scores of 25-16, 25-10 and 25-22.


Milton (28-3) plays at Kenosha Bradford on Saturday night. The Red Hawks, who have won 12 straight matches, last loss against Bradford in a tournament earlier this season.


Katie Soddy had 25 assists in directing the Milton offense. Samantha Scalissi finished with 10 digs for the Red Hawks, while Ellie Schullo had 10 kills.


Ashley Hartwig had a game-high 14 kills for Parker.


"I'm pretty pleased with the way we played, but Milton is just a better team," Parker coach Dave Lehmann said. "We made it close in game three, and game one was closer than the score indicates. They're a good team, though."


Parker finished 11-27-2.

-- Craig 3, Stoughton 2—Janesville Craig held on for a Division 1 regional semifinal win at Stoughton behind the play of Katie Villa and Regan Sitorius.


The Cougars defeated Stoughton, 3-2, Thursday night.


Craig (17-21) plays at Westosha Central on Saturday night in a regional final match.


The Cougars won Games 1 and 3, but saw the Vikings battle back in Games 2 and 4.. Craig pulled away late in game five to earn the win.


"We passed really well all night and had a lot of hustle plays," Craig coach Blake Budrow said. "We did a great job of hitting the ball when we needed to and kept a lot of balls in play."


Villa had 37 assists for Craig, while Sitorius finished with 13 kills.
