For the second week in a row, Edgerton High’s football team overcame a two-score deficit to gain a victory.

Friday’s night’s 20-17 comeback Rock Valley North win over visiting Whitewater gave the Crimson Tide a berth in the WIAA playoffs.

Edgerton (5-4, 4-3) overcame deficits of 10-0 and 17-7 to earn its first spot in the playoffs since 2007.

With his team trailing 17-7 in the third quarter, Collin Gregory hit Tyler Oren with a 66-yard touchdown pass to cut the Whippets’ advantage to 17-14.

Gregory’s 1-yard run, and Oren’s kick later in the quarter put the Crimson Tide ahead, 20-17.

Whitewater threatened midway through the final quarter when it drove to the Crimson Tide 3. Edgerton turned back the threat by forcing a fumble the Tide’s Jacob Grams recovered at the 13 with 5:53 left.

Edgerton drove to the Whitewater 31 before turning the ball over on downs. The Tide defense then stopped Whitewater on downs, and the offense ran out the clock.

Edgerton gained 434 total yards. Peter Linsley rushed for 136 yards on 19 carries, which included a 9-yard run. He went over 1,000 yards rushing.

Gregory completed 16 of 27 passes for 262 yards. Oren caught eight passes for 153 yards, while Lucas Gregory caught seven for 87.

Senior Bryan Edwards led the Whippet offense with 143 yards rushing on 33 carries. He scored both Whitewater touchdowns on runs of 6 and 20 yards.
