Verona tops Craig swim team

Alexis Roach and Kali Schneider each won an event, but Janesville Craig couldn't stay with Verona in a Big Eight Conference girls swim meet Thursday.

Verona won, 114-55, to drop the Cougars' Big Eight record to 4-3.

Roach won the 200 freestyle in 2:21.61 and added a second-place finish in the 400 freestyle in 4:57.25.

Schneider won the 400 in 4:48.73, and was second in the 200 individual medley in 2:33.11.

"Kali was really looking forward to competing against the Verona swimmers," Craig High coach Brian Kitzman said. "She had a really good meet."

The Cougars' Cady Gansen contributed a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke and a third-place finish in the 100 freestyle. Craig's Ashley Fry was third in the 50 freestyle.

"This is a tough meet for us because it's in a meter pool as opposed to yards," Kitzman said. "The times are different from what we're used to. We did a good job in a different environment."

Craig is at Madison East next Friday.
