— Cheryl L. Christenson, 57, Walworth, died Friday when her car collided with semitrailer truck head-on in the town of Walworth, according to a Walworth County Sheriff’s Office news release.

When deputies arrived on the scene at 4:04 p.m., they found Christenson in a 1999 Nissan Altima, which had sustained significant front-end damage, in the center of Highway 14 near County O, the release said.

Nearby, a 2000 Freightliner semitrailer truck, which also had significant front-end damage, was in the westbound ditch.

Dakota Logistics of Fargo, N.D. was reported as the owner of the truck.

An initial investigation of the crash scene indicates Christenson was traveling east on Highway 14 when her car crossed the centerline and into the path of the westbound truck, driven by Duey C. Fowler, 41, of Devils Lake, N.D. Fowler was not injured. Although Fowler tried to avoid the collision, the Nissan hit the truck head-on, according to the release.

Christenson was pronounced dead at the scene by the Walworth County coroner. Fowler was taken to Lakeland Medical Center, Elkhorn, for an on-duty commercial driver blood draw. Neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected to be contributing factors in the crash, the release said.

Highway 14 was shut down for four hours while the Walworth County crash investigation team conducted a full reconstruction of the crash scene, according to the release.
