Craig boys basketball team loses Saturday

— Janesville Craig High School boys basketball team lost Saturday to Waukesha Catholic Memorial, 75-56, in the Fort Atkinson Tournament.

After losing, 68-56, to Stevens Point in the tournament opener Friday, the Cougars could not bounce back with a sustained effort.


The Crusaders held a 42-35 lead at the half, and pulled away with a 15-8 third-quarter advantage for a 57-43 lead.


Jake Giffhorn scored 13 of his game-high 18 points in the first half to pace Catholic Memorial. Teammates Ryan Taugher and Ayinde Starling scored 16 and 10 points, respectively.


Craig’s Cameron Wright scored 16 points and Peter Cooney added 14 points, including four three-point baskets.

n Clinton 72, Williams Bay 30—The visiting Cougars posted a 21-4 first-quarter lead and rolled to the easy nonconference victory over the Bulldogs.


Cody Risseeuw scored a game-high 19 points for Clinton, while Chandler Stevenson and Justin Langley added 13 points apiece. Williams Bay did not have a player reach double figures.

n Monroe 54, Brodhead 39—Alex Bearenklau scored 12 of his 16 points in the second quarter to lead the Cheesemakers to a 21-9 second-quarter edge and a 29-17 halftime lead over the Cardinals in an nonconference opener.


Brodhead did not have a player score in double figures. The Cards were held to single digits in the first three quarters.

The Trojans trailed 41-37 going into the fourth period. Evan Metzger added 13 points and Sam Burns 11 for the winners.


Isaiah Shell scored 25 for the Comets.
