— The Janesville co-op hockey team used four second-period goals to down host Beloit Memorial in a Big Eight Conference boys hockey game as part of the Beloit tournament Friday night.

The Bluebirds used a hat trick from D.J. Mussey to outscore the Purple Knights.

Janesville coach John Mauermann said his team took advantage of a Beloit goalie who was making his first varsity start, and was able to stay at least two goals ahead of Beloit after the first period.

“We put in a couple of rebounds and killed a 5-on-3 in the second period,” Mauermann said. “This was a good chance to get our feet wet. We have a lot of new kids playing, and we got the puck to the net.”

The Bluebirds play two games today at 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
