Milton's Kovars earns first-team honors

Monona Grove dominated the Badger South in football this season, so it’s no surprise the Silver Eagles dominate the all-conference selections.

Led by Theron Baumann, a unanimous first-team selection at center and defensive lineman, the Silver Eagles occupy 10 of the 26 all-conference, first-team spots.

Madison Edgewood, which advanced to the WIAA Division 3 state semifinals, has eight players on the first team.

Milton’s Riley Kovars was named to the first team at wide receiver. The senior caught 30 passes for 535 yards and eight touchdowns. Kovars averaged 17.8 yards per reception.

Fort Atkinson, which finished third and advanced to the postseason for the first time since 2007, has three players on the first team defense. Junior Jordan Strasburg was first team at defensive end, while junior Nick Schulenberg was first team at linebacker. The Blackhawks’ Jesse Garcia, a junior, was the first team punter.

Milton’s A.J. Natter and Ian Johnson were both unanimous first-team selections on defense. Natter, a junior, joined Strasburg on the defensive front. Johnson, a senior, was one of three first team down lineman.
