— Milton High School girls swimming team posted seven victories and forged its third straight WIAA Division 2 sectional championship Saturday at Baraboo.

The Red Hawks, the defending Division 2 state champs, won three relays and four individual events en route to 369.5 points for the title. De Forest took second with 344 points.

“This is probably our best sectional,” said coach Tom Lieder about Milton winning its third straight sectional. “It’s our biggest margin of victory.’’

Katelyn Holmquist won the 200 individual medley (2:07.04) and the 100 backstroke. Abby Holmquist won the 200 freestyle (1:54.27), and Stacey Kincade won the 500 freestyle (5:12.81).

Katelyn Holmquist, Bridgette Alexander, Stacey Kincade and Meagan Roberts combined to win the 200 medley relay.

Katelyn Holmquist, Roberts, Chelsea Calhoon and Abby Holmquist won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:40.35. Calhoon, Kincade, Abby Holmquist and Alexander won the 400 freestyle in 3:36.29 breaking their sectional mark of 3:37.24 set in 2010.

“We made out well,” Lieder said. “We swam really well.’’

In the Division 1 sectional at Middleton, Janesville Craig finished seventh in the team standings and has several possible extra qualifiers.

“We just have to wait to find out,” said Craig coach Brian Kitzman. “We did have a number of girls who finished in the top eight and that is a pretty good indication.”

The Cougars’ 200 medley relay team broke the school record that it had set in last week’s Big Eight Conference meet. The team of Alexis Roach, Cady Gansen, Emma Schmaling and Ashley Frey accomplished the feat again.

In addition, the Cougar team of Maggie Gorman, Kali Schneider, Sierra Rhodes and Ashley Fry set a school record in the 200 freestyle relay. The team finished in 1:43.95, which broke the mark of 1:43.97 set in 2007.

Janesville Parker finished 12th. Middleton won the sectional title.
