— Western Michigan senior punter Ben Armer has been named a candidate for the Ray Guy Award, given annually to the nationís best punter.

Armer is a 2008 graduate of Janesville Parker.

The Augusta Sports Council announced the nominees for the 2011 Ray Guy Award on Monday, which identifies the nationís top collegiate punter. Among the 54 candidates are 2009 winner and 2010 finalist, Drew Butler of Georgia. Candidates were nominated for the award by their schoolís sports information department.

Armer currently boasts a per punt average of 41.7 yards, an average that if the season ended today, would be the fifth-best in WMU history. He has 14 punts that have landed inside the 20, matching his 2010 output. He has seven punts of 50 yards or better including a career long 66-yard punt at Northern Illinois.
