Orfordville hands Jefferson first loss
The Orfordville Orioles celebrated the holiday by delivering another key blow in the Southeast Section of Home Talent League baseball.
After dropping Fort Atkinson from the unbeaten ranks a week ago, Orfordville did the same to Jefferson on Monday by knocking off the East Division leaders, 5-1.
Despite the loss, Jefferson remained atop the division at 4-1. Orfordville improved to 3-2 in the West with its third straight win.
Joe Lange pitched a complete-game two-hitter that included 13 strikeouts as the visiting Orioles dominated Jefferson.
Trevor Wallace had three hits and drove in two runs to lead Orfordville’s offense. The Orioles broke a 1-1 tie in a two-run sixth and added two runs in the ninth.
Losing pitcher Tom Klug had 11 strikeouts and allowed only five hits.

-- Albion 13, Cambridge 1—The host Tigers ripped Cambridge with an eight-run first inning and won a six-inning game as they improved to 4-1 in the West Division.
Matt Buhrow of the Tigers took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and finished with a one-hitter. Cambridge’s only run came in the sixth and was unearned.
Jesse Appel, Trevor Kinnett, Josh Eastman and Kyle Johnson each had three of Albion’s 19 hits. Appel drove in four runs, and Johnson had three RBIs.
-- Whitewater 9, Evansville 6—Whitewater scored eight runs in the last three innings to overtake Evansville and gain a 3-2 record in the East Division.
The Swingers had five doubles among their 17 hits. Jason Kollwelter had two of those doubles and a single, while teammate Dustin Christopherson collected a double, two singles and four RBIs.
Kollwelter pitched a complete game in getting the victory, but he allowed 15 hits.
Danny Crans had five singles and two RBIs for Evansville, which fell to 1-5 in the West. John Duerst and Chad Ramussen each drove two runs for the Jays, who led 6-1 after six innings.
Evansville was the victim of Eric Sperloin’s four-hit pitching in a 6-1 loss in Sunday’s only Southeast game that was not rained out.
-- Stoughton 7, Fort Atkinson 3—Stoughton completed a 2-0 weekend gained a half-game lead in the West at 5-0 by handing Fort Atkinson (3-2) its second straight loss.
Scott Nachreiner led off Stoughton’s fourth inning with a home run. Aaron Nelson and Justin Moore each had two-run homers in Stoughton’s four-run eighth inning.
-- Utica 5, Deerfield 1—Kyle Bates had a two-run double in a four-run second inning as Utica hammered winless Deerfield and improved to 4-0 in the West.
-- McFarland 5, Lake Mills 1—Corey Suchardt’s two-run single in the eight inning sealed McFarland’s win over Lake Mills.
