Janesville Craig takes down Fort Atkinson
Janesville Craig’s softball team ended the regular season on a high note Thursday.
The Cougars pounded out 14 hits in cruising past Badger South champion Fort Atkinson, 13-7, in a nonconference game.
Craig High (14-8) overcame a 5-3 deficit to take the lead for good in a five-run fourth inning.
“Every kid in our lineup got a hit,” Craig coach Dan Bayreuther said. “We swung the bats well and moved runners around.
“Neither team threw their best pitcher, but our girls did what we had to do to get the job done.
“For her first time out and being a freshman, Nicole Kelly did a nice job of battling on the mound for us.”
Stephanie Perleberg and Leigh Grall had three RBI’s each for Craig.
Craig hosts Oregon in a WIAA Division 1 regional opener on Tuesday at the Janesville Youth Sports Complex. The winner plays at Fort Atkinson.
