Death likely due to natural causes
The man was identified later Wednesday as Osvaldo L. Fernandez, 48, of 462 S. Randall Ave., No. 1.
An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, and toxicology test results are pending, according to a police department press release.
Fernandez’s body showed no outward signs of trauma, Hiers said.
“There were no shot or stab wounds,’’ Hiers said.
The body was found at 6:30 a.m. by Vanessa Wakefield, who lives nearby.
“I had woken up, let the dog outside and was just drinking my orange juice, waiting for the dog to do her business, when I noticed a man lying down over by the car of one of the other neighbors,” Wakefield said.
After letting her dog in, she grabbed her phone and tried to get the man’s attention. He didn’t respond.
“I could tell he wasn’t breathing,” Wakefield said. “I called the cops, who were here immediately. I knew something was wrong as soon as I saw him. It was a very eerie start to my day.”
