Some things Janesville Parker High’s baseball team hasn’t improved much in the past month were illustrated Tuesday.

The Vikings dropped a game to Madison La Follette that was suspended due to darkness April 26, 6-5, in 13 innings, then lost a regularly scheduled game to the Lancers, 5-3.

The Vikings committed seven errors in the suspended game, and two more in the regular game.

Parker coach Brian Martin said his team had not practiced in a week due to games.

“You get two or three ground balls hit to you during a game, and if you haven’t fielded one in a while it can be tough,” Martin said. “But that isn’t an excuse. We’ve got to be better than that in the field.”

The suspended game was picked up in the top of the 12th. Andy Kersten started the 12th on the mound for Parker. The Lancers scored in the 13th on back-to-back errors and a sacrifice fly.

Parker’s Kyle Johnson pitched all six innings of the second game, allowing just three earned runs.

“Kyle pitched very well,” Martin said.

Johnson had an RBI single, and Decker Thompson had a sacrifice fly for two of the Vikings’ three runs.

Parker (8-9 in the Big Eight, 11-13 overall) completes the Big Eight and regular season with a home game against Madison Memorial on Thursday.
