Craig bats go bonkers in Fort

FORT ATKINSON — Janesville Craig High School produced 35 runs on 37 hits Saturday to sweep host Fort Atkinson in nonconference baseball.

The Cougars downed the Blackhawks, 20-14 and 15-7.

In the first game, 10 of the Cougars’ 22 hits were for extra bases. Charlie Miller led the way with a homer.

In the second game, Craig had six more extra-base hits and 15 hits total.

Tom Yaucher’s two home runs highlighted the offensive barrage.

In the opener, Jamison Henning went 4-for-5, Riley Quinn was 5-for-5, and Mitch Phillips drove in five runs. In the nightcap, Yaucher was

3-for-4 with five RBIs, including two-run and three-run homers.

“I hope this is a sign of good things to come, and we can carry this right through the tournament,” Craig coach Victor Herbst said. “We played ahead all day, and that really helped out our pitchers.’’

Craig hosts Madison East at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
