Save Janesville Schools fundraisers under way

— Save Janesville Schools is planning a number of fundraising events this month. Several already have occurred or are ongoing. They include:

-- Nine karate students earned $1,180 on Saturday during their Karate America Kick-a-Thon. The students completed 1,100 karate kicks in two hours.


The karate students were Robert Suter, Cameron Cass, Peyton Cass, Rebecca Beach, Elijah Faber, Hannah Dunlavy, Sarah Greggs, Amelia Clarquist and Ben Suter.


-- Craig High School’s Anne Runde organized a cupcake sale that netted $313.


-- The Monroe Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization is collecting pop tabs.


-- Adams Elementary School is organizing a coin drive.


-- Craig High School is donating the profits from the sale of Craig Hero hats.


-- Shari Faber, co-chairperson for Save Janesville Schools, is leading a recycling fundraiser. Items being accepted include laptops with the hard drive removed or swiped, cell phones, digital cameras, digital video cameras, MP3 players, and jewelry. Money from fundraisers will go toward SJS’ effort to help restore jobs that have been cut from the school district’s 2011-12 budget.


Cash donors also can mail checks to the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin, 26 S. Jackson St., Janesville, WI 53548. Donations also can be made online at cfsw.org.

The organization also plans two informational meetings about their efforts at:


-- 3 p.m. Sunday at Hedberg Public Library Public, 316 S. Main St., Janesville.


-- 7 p.m. Monday in the small auditorium, Room 1145, at Parker High School, 3125 Mineral Point Ave., Janesville.
