— The UW-Whitewater baseball team warmed up for the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament by sweeping Concordia University, 8-6 and 11-0, in a nonconference doubleheader Tuesday.

The victories pushed the Warhawks (31-9) past the 30-win mark for the fourth straight season under coach John Vodenlich.

Janesville Parker High graduate Matt Beyer hit an RBI single in the eighth inning of the opener to help the Warhawks win after Concordia tied the game at 6-all in the sixth. Sam Keller Jr. hit a homer in the seventh to put the Warhawks ahead for good.

Beyer also had a homer in the second game. The Warhawks scored seven times in the first inning, and the game was called after seven innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

The Warhawks open WIAC tournament play at UW-Stevens Point at 10 a.m. Friday against UW-Oshkosh.

The tournament champion earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.
