Stang three-peats as top WIAC pitcher

Jessica Stang has put three strikes across the plate many times in her UW-Whitewater softball career.


The lefty starter has registered another “three-strike” call in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason honors.


Stang was the WIAC first-team all-conference pitcher for the third straight season.


Stang was joined on the first team by teammates Lauren Rankins, third base; Amanda Mertes, oufielder, and Emily Epifanio, catcher.


Stang has a 19-5 record and a 1.53 ERA while leading the Warhawks into the NCAA Division III tournament. She has struck out 188 in 150 2/3 innings.


The senior from Minnetonka, Minn., earned WIAC Pitcher of the Year recognition in 2008 and 2009.


Rankins is a senior third baseman who hit .377 with 43 hits. She had one homer and drove in 25. Her fielding percentage at third base was .976.


Epifanio, a sophomore, is hitting .294 with 37 hits. She has nine homers and driven in 34. Her fielding percentage behind the plate is .988.


Mertes is a sophomore outfielder who is hitting .411. She has 37 hits and has stolen 17 bases in 18 attempts. She has not committed an error.


Freshman Mimi Ramirez earned honorable mention as a second baseman/outfielder. She is hitting .390 with 39 hits and has 10 stolen bases.
