— Matt Knutson continued to roll at No. 1 singles for Janesville Parker, but Viking coach Mike Fuhrmann was most happy for his No. 1 doubles team of Austin McDonald and Nick Garey.

McDonald and Garey earned their first-ever Big Eight Conference victory with a 7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 6-2 win in the Vikings’ 5-2 loss to the Madison La Follette Lancers.

“They held on well,” Fuhrmann said. “It was touch-and-go there after the second set, but they came back and controlled things in the third. Nick is a freshman and Austin a sophomore, so we’re hoping for big things from them in the future. They beat two seniors today.”

The Vikings, 0-7 in the Big Eight, are at Madison Memorial on Thursday.
