— Janesville Parker senior Matt Knutson completed a perfect week by winning three more matches Saturday to capture the No. 1 singles title at the Stoughton Invitational tennis tournament.

Knutson went 8-0 for the week.

He won three straight-set matches on Saturday to earn the title. Knutson defeated Dylan Mack of Sauk Prairie, 6-1, 6-1; Mike Palmer of Stoughton, 6-0, 6-2, and Taylor Soddy of Monroe, 6-1, 6-4, in the championship match.

“Matt had a huge week,” Parker coach Mike Fuhrmann said. “He played against some really good players and he went 8-0.”

Monroe and Sauk Prairie tied with 24 points, but Monroe was awarded the team title because it had more individual champions.

Oregon placed third with 23 points, followed by Parker with 17, Stoughton, 13; Burlington, 10; Jefferson, 8; and Walworth Big Foot, 7.

“I was extremely happy,” Fuhrmann said. “We’ve had a long week, and our kids really came in and stepped up. Today was probably one of our best days of the season so far. We’ve really improved over the course of this year.”

The Vikings’ Ethan Zweifel at No. 3 singles and Hunter Thompson at No. 4 singles each finished fourth. Parker’s No. 2 doubles team of Jordan Peyer and Jared Veighley, and the Vikings’ No. 3 doubles team of Jarren Norrell and Spencer Debroux also placed fourth.

Parker plays a makeup match Monday at Verona.
