— A six-run rally in the fifth inning carried Janesville Craig’s softball team to victory Friday afternoon.

Nicole Kelly drove in two runs, and Paige Weber had another solid outing on the mound to lead the Cougars to an 8-1 win over Madison Memorial in a Big Eight Conference game at the Youth Sports Complex.

Weber, who threw a no-hitter in Craig High’s win over Madison East on Thursday, allowed only three hits against the Spartans.

“Paige had a great week for us,” Craig coach Dan Bayreuther said. “And our defense has played very well behind her. That’s a good combination to have.

“We got a couple of timely hits today and took advantage of a couple Memorial errors.”

The game was tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth before Craig (8-7, 7-5) scored six runs to take control. Kelly sparked the rally with a two-run single.

The Cougars play Middleton on Tuesday.
