— Janesville Parker split a Big Eight Conference doubleheader with Madison East on Saturday at Bowman Field.

The Vikings won the opener, 11-1, in five innings before falling, 7-3, in Game 2.

“We had success in the first game, and then we came out flat in the second game,” Parker coach Brian Martin said.

The Vikings (8-6 overall, 6-5 Big Eight) struck for two first-inning runs in the first game as Kyle Johnson and Brady Brandt each had RBI doubles.

Parker added four runs in the fourth, highlighted by a suicide squeeze by Aric Bobzien, Connor Long’s RBI single, and Johnson’s two-run single.

Brandt and Long each had RBI doubles in Parker’s five-run fifth.

Vikings starter Andy Kersten worked four innings to pick up the victory. He allowed three hits and struck out eight.

Mike Heyerdahl pitched the final inning of both games for Parker and didn’t allow a run.

“Andy and Mike did a good job,” Martin said. “Andy was pretty much in control the whole game.”

The second game was a different story as Parker managed single runs in the first, second and sixth innings. East (1-8 Big Eight) went ahead to stay, 5-3, with two runs in the fourth, then added two runs in the sixth.

Trent Kobs hit an RBI single in the first, and Jeff Henke led off the second with a solo home run for the Vikings. Henke also drove in Parker’s third run in the sixth with a groundout.

Parker hosts Beloit Memorial at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Riverside Park.
