Weber throws no-hitter for Janesville Craig, Parker loses
Janesville Craig High School softball coach Dan Bayreuther says assistant coach Nicole Zellmer, catcher Autum Sullivan and pitcher Paige Weber are “all on the same page.”
That “page” was part of a great story Thursday.
Weber threw a no-hitter, allowing just one runner, and the Cougars had 12 hits in beating host Madison East, 10-0, in a game that was called after six innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.
“Weber pitched a gem,” said Bayreuther. “She hit the third batter of the game, but after that, she totally shut them down.”
The junior, who was a second-team All-Big Eight selection last year, struck out the side in the fourth and struck out two of the three batters in both the second and sixth innings.
With Zellmer calling the pitches, the Cougars also recorded a shutout against Waunakee on Monday.
“They’re in rhythm right now,” Bayreuther said.
Haley Bayreuther and Erica Mortensen each had three hits, while Stephanie Perleberg and Jill Blanchard each added two. Perleberg had an inside-the-park homer.
Haley Bayreuther and Perleberg each scored three times, while Leigh Grall and Nicole Kelly each scored twice.
The Cougars, 6-5 in the Big Eight and 7-7 overall, host Madison Memorial today at the Janesville Youth Sports Complex.

Nicole Newman continues to dominate Big Eight Conference softball.
The Madison La Follette freshman limited Janesville Parker to one hit and struck out 12 in leading the Lancers to a 3-1 win at the Youth Sports Complex on Thursday.
Parker (3-11, 3-8) had runners in scoring position in four innings but could not come up with a clutch hit.
“She’s a very good pitcher,” Parker coach Jenni Seisser said. “Her riseball is tough to hit, so I told the girls to move up in the box. When we did that, I think we rattled her a little bit.
“What hurt us today was a couple of errors that led to a couple unearned runs.”
Newman helped her cause by driving in La Follette’s second run with a double.
Parker hosts defending conference champion Verona today at the Youth Sports Complex.
