The Craig High School Honor Wall induction ceremony is at 1:30 p.m. today at the school, 401 S. Randall Ave., Janesville.

— Craig High School has already honored Sen. Russ Feingold and Rep. Paul Ryan, hanging the likenesses of these congressmen on the school’s honor wall. But Craig is not yet done with national politicians.

The high school today will honor yet another graduate who served his country in Congress: Bob Carr, a former longtime congressman from Michigan.

Carr is one of three honorees in today’s ceremony. The other two are Janesville Police Chief Dave Moore and Frank Douglas, a World War II combat veteran who went on to become one of Janesville’s most beloved and respected teachers.

The school will honor all three in a ceremony today at Craig.

-- Milton Robert “Bob” Carr—This 1961 Craig graduate got his bachelor’s and law degrees from UW-Madison. He represented Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives in the 1970s, ’80s and ’90s, serving on the appropriations and armed services committees and as chairman of the Congressional Arts Caucus.

Carr also was an observer and advisor to arms-control negotiations with the Soviet Union in the 1970s.

Carr has worked as an attorney and lobbyist for the Dow Lohnes law firm since 1995. He serves on the boards of directors for the United States Association of Former Members of Congress and Supporters of a Civil Society in Russia.

-- Frank Douglas—This 1943 graduate of Janesville High School served three years in the 4th Infantry Division in Europe during World War II. He was there for the D-Day landing, the liberation of Paris and the Battle of Hurtgen Forest. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

Douglas attended UW-Madison, became a teacher and taught high school for 37 years, 30 of those in Janesville, where he was beloved by colleagues and students. He was named state Teacher of the Year in 1985.

-- Dave Moore—Janesville’s current police chief is a 1974 Craig graduate. He was a conference and state champion gymnast during high school.

Moore said he became interested in becoming a police officer when he witnessed a police officer save a girl from being struck by a train. He joined the Janesville Police Department in 1977. He was appointed chief in 2009 after a national search.

Moore holds a master’s degree in corporate and public communication. A major goal as chief is to create trust between police and the community.

Moore created the Operation Sober Streets program. He is a board member for the YWCA CARE House, a Janesville bike trail volunteer and has served as president of the Janesville Morning Rotary Club.

A greatly deserved award for Frank Douglas. Having worked with him on a number of occasions, I always came away with a richer understanding of what it meant to be a teacher. Well done, Frank!
