Raptors open with victory
The 2011 Rock River League baseball season started with a bang for Joe Shere and the Milton Junction Pub Raptors.
Shere homered twice, drove in six runs and struck out 13 batters to lead Milton to a 20-4 win over the Farmington Braves in a Rock River Southern Division game Sunday.
Milton pounded out 19 hits, including four home runs, in its season opener.
“It was a great start for us,” Milton coach Doug Welch said. “We went up there early last season and lost to them.
“We got great pitching today, especially from Joe. He was throwing hard.”
Tom Scalissi drove in four runs for Milton, while Matt Fredricks and Shere had five hits each. Josh Shere also homered for the Raptors.
Milton plays at Lebanon on Sunday.
