Former board member Jim Hensch is challenging incumbent Darien Village Board President Evelyn Etten.

Evelyn Etten (I)

Age: 48

Address: 436 Oak Ridge Drive, Darien.

Job: Has held staff positions in local government for 14 years and three years in state government.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration from Cardinal Stritch University, 2006; also holds a cosmetology license and formerly owned a salon in Delavan.

Community service: Has volunteered for Corn Fest and at Festival on the Rock.

Elected posts: Elected as the Darien Village Board president in April 2009

Major campaign issues: As village president, I would like the opportunity to continue bringing positive and noticeable change to Darien residents, to encourage fellow trustees to be fiscally responsible leaders, to monitor budget spending, to be able to maintain the progressive healing and growth, and to review facility needs facing our village.

James E. Hensch

Age: 68

Address: 513 Danielson Drive

Job: Consultant

Education: Bachelor’s degree from UW-Milwaukee, 1966.

Community service: Greendale Jaycee president; AARP tax aide; Corn Fest volunteer and member of the Darien parks and police commissions.

Elected posts: Former Darien Village Board member

Major campaign issues: I would improve long-term planning by creating a vision and providing leadership to allow community leaders—including those in Darien Township—to help guide the process. I would change board direction from reactive to proactive by empowering committees to streamline reaction times, improving communications and reducing special meetings and legal fees.
