Brodhead standout J.J. Panoske has finished his high school basketball career among the state’s elite.

The Cardinals’ 6-10 senior center, who will join the UW-Milwaukee program on scholarship in NCAA Division I next season, received honorable mention in the Associated Press All-State selections that were announced today.

Panoske also was a first-team selection for Division 3 in the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association all-state picks that were announced over the weekend.

With a 91-game varsity career in the books, Panoske finished with 1,542 points, 654 rebounds and 126 assists. He was a three-time first-team All-Rock Valley South selection and is this season’s Player of the Year.

Pankoske led the 12-school Rock Valley with a 22.5 scoring average as a junior. He repeated the honor this season with a 24.6 conference average that included 36 three-point goals and four games between 33 of 40 points.

The overall totals for Panoske’s senior season included 541 points, 190 rebounds, 30 assists and 99 blocks for a 14-10 team

“J.J. was as solid as we could ask for this season,” Brodhead coach Brian Kammerer said. “Teams double- and triple-teamed him, but he did a better job of finding the post and using his ability to score, both in the post and out on the perimeter.

“When we seemed to be struggling offensively, our guys did a great job of getting our big guy the ball. I know he definitely worked every day (during the summer) in the gym, and it definitely paid off.”

Panoske is joined in the AP selections by Madison East senior Nimrod Hilliard IV, who is on the first team, and Junior Lomomba, a Madison Memorial junior, who has been named to the second team. Honorable mention also went to Monroe senior Michael Barrett, Memorial seniors Tre’ Burnette and Miles Chamberlain, Sun Prairie sophomore Nick Fuller and Waunakee senior Beau Murray.
