— Lin Zastrow and Anya Covington gave the University of Wisconsin the edge it needed Wednesday in a 68-48 victory over Butler in a first-round women's NIT tournament game at the Kohl Center.

With Butler starting five players 5-foot, 10-inches or smaller and no players taller than 6-2 on its roster, the Badgers' got the ball down low to forwards Zastrow and Covington.

Zastrow led all scorers with 22 points. The Jefferson High graduate was 9-of-15 shooting and notched a career-high seven assists. Covington chipped in with a season-high tying 16 points.

UW improved to 16-14, while Butler's season ended with 20-14 mark.

Guard Alyssa Karel, UW's leading scorer on the season, added 12 points. Karel pulled down seven rebounds and dished out six assists as the Badgers registered a season-high 22 assists.

Wisconsin took an early 11-4 lead and didn't trail until the 4:19 mark of the first half when Butler went ahead 22-21. The Badgers closed the half with an 8-1 run to lead 30-23.

UW pounded Butler 11-4 in the first seven minutes of the second half en route to a 14-point advantage, 41-27. The Bulldogs tried to make a comeback, using a full-court press to go on a 7-0 run and pull within 45-39 midway through the half.

Covington and Zastrow combined to score six of the next eight points, though, as UW built the lead back up to double digits. Wisconsin scored 11 of the game's final 14 points to account for the final margin.
