— Police chased two suspects in separate incidents Sunday and Monday.

In the first chase, an officer spotted a speeder near the intersection of Milton Avenue and Highway 14 at 4:23 a.m. Sunday.

The officer tried to stop the blue Dodge pickup truck, and a chase ensued on Milton Avenue to northbound Interstate 90/39, where speeds reached 70 mph, police said.

The pursuit continued for nearly 10 miles. The truck left the highway and entered a yard at 9166 N. Pine Road, south of Newville.

The truck went into a field, where it was found abandoned. Police reported plenty of clues left behind in the truck.

The second chase resulted in the arrest of Craig W. Champion, 22, of 1743 Johnson St., Beloit, on a charge of fleeing to avoid arrest.

An officer tried to stop Champion near the intersection of Menard and Terrace streets at 7:32 a.m. Monday, but Champion sped up and tried to elude the officer with frequent turns, police said. Speeds of up to 45 mph were reported.

Champion was stopped at the intersection of Washington and Conde streets, where he told police he fled because he had a suspended driver's license, according to a report.
